Coach Criner's Corner

 

7-24-08

First of all I would like to welcome coach Yanci Mumba, Coach Mumba will be joining us as my new assistant wrestling coach. Coach Mumba has wrestling experience as well as football. He wrestled in Indiana, and also played football at a university in Tennessee. His presence on the team will make a tremendous impact.

Also, there are a few warrior wrestlers who have been busy this off season that we need to recognize. Blake Ward has been representing Team Texas this summer in Greco-Roman wrestling. Blake is in Fargo, ND this weekend competing in USA wrestling nationals, wish him luck.

We also have some former warriors who are leaving for college this fall and will be wrestling. They are Donnie Bell and Samuel Bonsu.  Donnie and Bonsu will be attending Iowa Central Community College in the fall and will be wrestling there. 

I appreciate all those who have helped with wrestling this past season, and I look forward to this upcoming season as well.

Great job to all the kids that competed in the Fair Park Slam and to

the parents that are supporting Grand Prairie wrestling through Grizzlies. 

It's always a good thing getting kids involved in such a great sport at a

young age.  I look forward to hopefully having the privilege of coaching

these kids as Warrior Wrestlers.  Keep up the fantastic work!

A few suggestions for tournament day meals and snacks:

Fruit

Granola bars/Nutrigrain bars

Yogurt

Applesauce

Peanut butter crackers

Light sandwiches

Water/Gatorade

No cookies, no chips, no junk food!

 

 

11-2-07:

I am really looking forward to the season.  Everyone on the team is
working out hard, and I am sure those hard workouts will pay off in the
end.  As a wrestler you have always got to strive to exceed
expectations, not just your coach's expectations, but expectations that
you have for yourself.  Remember to stay focused and mentally tough. In
the end, if your hand gets raised at the end of the match, you'll know all

the sacrifice was worth it.  Go Warriors!
